Loretta Mulcahey The Beulah T. Meyers Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Service was developed to honor one of our best remembered Red Cross volunteers who projected the Red Cross image in our Chapter through their extensive work. This is the Washington County Chapter’s highest volunteer award. This year’s Beulah T. Meyers recipient, Loretta Mulcahey completed her Red Cross orientation in Arizona in 1972. She then volunteered at Army posts in Ft. Benning, GA., Naples, Italy; Manheim, Germany; the Netherlands and Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri. Loretta and her five children accompanied her husband, Army Colonel Frank Mulcahey, during his many tours of duty in the U.S. and overseas. Since joining our Chapter in 1992 she has been working Blood Drives, served as Chairman of Youth Services, a member of the Awards Committee, a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. She assisted her husband as a military caseworker for seven years as the Tuesday night “on call” volunteer and was with him during his tenure as Chairman of Disaster Services. She was very involved in our Capital Campaign and has been working in the Chapter office since 1992 as a staff aide in every disaster/national crisis the Red Cross has been involved with such as; 9/11; Tsunami in Indonesia and Hurricane Katrina. Wherever Loretta goes, whether it is working at local retail outlets, St Ann’s Church, or raising money and recruiting volunteers at Newcomers and Women’s Club events she is always an outstanding Red Cross representative. Loretta will take on any job, big or small. She has shown commitment, dedication and caring for others throughout her overseas volunteer service and the many hats she has worn as a Washington County volunteer. Obviously she has far exceeded the commitment she made at her orientation and she is a great ambassador for our Chapter.
